 It's
always good to keep an look back a year or two when checking out
fantasy football. Every season isn't the same. Injuries and age hurt
a player's numbers, while younger players sometimes evolve into
superstars.
Tracking the past few seasons is a good way to see where a player
is heading. You can see how much a fading superstar is fading from
one year to the next. Owners can see how much improvement a young
quarterback or wide receiving is showing.
Most of all, you can chart consistency and single out the
one-year wonders. There are always some surprises in fantasy
football rankings, if you look at them closely enough. Here's the
second half of our three-part features on fantasy football player
rankings of the past three seasons.
Fantasy Football Rankings - 2006
From season to season, fantasy football rankings can change
dramatically. Below, I have listed the top fantasy players for the
2006 NFL season. Also, be sure to check out the rankings for 2005
and 2007, as viewing these together will give you a good idea of
which fantasy players are the most consistent.
The following scoring system was used to compile our rankings:
- 1 pt. per 10 yards rushing or receiving
- 1 pt. per 25 yards passing
- 1 pt. per reception
- 6 pts. for rushing, receiving or passing touchdown
- 6 pts. for a kick or punt return
- 1 pt. per fumble recovery
- 1 pt. per interception
- 1 pt. for blocked field goals or extra points
- 1 pt. per sack
- 2 pts. per safety
- Defense scores points based on points allowed to opposing
team (this ranges from 21, for 0-2 pts., to zero for more than
21 pts. allowed).
- 6 pts. for a defensive or special teams touchdown
