2008 Fantasy Schedules

Fantasy leagues need fantasy football schedules every year, so Football Babble is providing printable fantasy schedules for 2008.

I’ve included three schedules so far, each for a 12-team, 3-division schedule. I may try to add 10-team schedules, as well, or a schedule for a 12-team, 2-division league. Here’s hoping league owners use these schedules to good effect.

Fantasy Football Schedule – 13 Weeks – 13 Games

This is a simple 13-week, 13-game fantasy football schedule. This is probably the most-used schedule by 12 team leagues which divide into 3 four-team divisions.

In this schedule, all division rivals will play one another twice. The tradeoff is that each team will not play one league member not in their division. Usually, the playoffs in this schedule will be three weeks long, stretching from Week 14 to Week 16 of the NFL regular season.

Fantasy Football Schedule – 14 Weeks – 14 Games

This schedule allows every team in the league to play everyone else. It also avoids doubleheaders, which many players feel are a little tricked up and random for their tastes.

The disadvantage of the 14 week regular season is it only allows for 2 playoff weeks (and therefore a smaller playoff field), or it pushes the fantasy bowl into Week 17 of the NFL Regular Season. Since many teams are resting players, the results might be skewed in this schedule.

I don’t use this one myself, but I’ll add it for those who prefer it.

In this schedule, there is a 13th week divisional double-header. There are two reasons that I like scheduling a double-header so late in the season.

One, this is after all bye weeks, so there’s no advantage or disadvantage given to a team because of bye weeks.

Two, having the double-header on the last week of the regular season adds intrigue to the playoff race. Someone can make up two games in the last week of the season. Or that same someone can lose two games to their opponents. Either way, more teams stay in the playoff chase to the very end.

I make this a divisional double-header to raise the stakes even higher.
