Fantasy Sports Live Journal Week 16
NFL Week 16
The NFL regular season will be over before you know it, but the action is still going strong over at Fantasy Sports Live.
Just think of it as fantasy football, but you get to pick a new team every time you play. What’s better than that?
On FantasySportsLive.com, contestants select whole new fantasy football squads every week. If your team stinks, you can always try again next week.
Fantasy Sports Live – Week 15 Results
I entered three contests last week, and I ended up losing every damn one of them. Which reminds me….avoid playing against Kaiserol13 if at all possible. Every week I enter head-to-head contests, and every week this guy jumps in and competes against me. And more often than not, I might as well have thrown my money in the garbage.
Let’s put it in poker terms. Say you’re in Vegas and Phil Hellmuth sits down to play at your table. He beats you, but you wouldn’t expect anything less. You move to a table with smaller limits, and Hellmuth shows up again. Basically, you can’t seem to play a game of poker in Las Vegas without freakin’ Phil Hellmuth showing up to take your money.
That’s how I feel about Kaiserol13. The guy is just too damn good (which explains why he has more money finishes than anyone else at Fantasy Sports Live). I don’t mind some competition, but this is getting ridiculous. From now on, I’m going out of my way to avoid competing in contests with Kaiserol13. If you’re looking for a real challenge, however, he’s definitely your man.
Fantasy Sports Live Contest #1 (32610) – Week 15
Ten player contest with 1st place paying $5 – Entry fee is $1.
1000 point salary cap
- QB P. Manning IND 19.0
- WR D. Bowe KAN 8.4
- WR R. White ATL 6.1
- WR R. Wayne IND 10.4
- RB L. Tomlinson SDC 13.4
- RB D. Williams CAR 15.1
- TE J. Carlson SEA 7.6
- K N. Kaeding SDC 4.5
- DEF D. MIA MIA 12.5
I finished in fourth place with 97 points. The winner of the contest got an impressive 128.7.
None of my guys really did terrible, they just failed to have monster games. Roddy White especially let me down, as he scored only 6.1 points.
Fantasy Sports Live Contest #2 – Week 15 – #32587
Heads-up contest with 1st place paying $20 – Entry fee is $11.
800 pt. salary cap
- QB T. Thigpen KAN 20.8
- WR R. White ATL 6.1
- WR A. Bryant TAM 16.8
- WR R. Wayne IND 10.4
- RB D. Rhodes IND 23.6
- RB D. Sproles SDC 1.1
- TE C. Cooley WAS 3.1
- K A. Vinatieri IND 7.5
- DEF D. IND IND 5.5
This contest allowed you to select players from the noon games. I finished with 94.9 points, but Kaiserol13 scored 109.1 and defeated me. Big surprise.
Sproles was a killer. He’s been scoring some touchdowns lately, and I thought the trend might continue. He was also dirt cheap, which is important when you have an 800 point cap. He ended up with 1.1.
Dominic Rhodes put up 23.6 in place of the always-injured Joseph Addai. I think Addai might be the most brittle player in the NFL.
I expected more than 5.5 from the Colts defense. They were taking on the lowly Lions, but still managed to give up 21 points. At least Reggie Wayne got me 10.4 points in the same game.
FSL Contest #3 (32467) – Week 15
Heads-up contest with a prize of $6 – $3.4 entry fee
No salary cap
- QB K. Warner ARI 14.8
- WR R. White ATL 6.1
- WR A. Boldin ARI 1.4
- WR B. Marshall DEN 4.8
- RB T. Jones NYJ 14.2
- RB M. Turner ATL 24.2
- TE T. Gonzalez KAN 12.2
- K J. Carney NYG 8.0
- DEF D. IND IND 5.5
I scored 91.2, but Kaiserol13 edged me out with 92 points. I really hate that guy.
Nobody expected the Vikings to shut down the Cardinals offense, but they did. Warner still managed 14.8 points, but only 1.4 from Boldin really hurt. Brandon Marshall and Roddy White didn’t fare much better, so I lay this loss solely at the feet of my receiving corps.

Fantasy Sports Live – Week 16 Contests
Week 16 of the NFL season is upon us, and I’ll be entering my traditional three contests over at Fantasy Sports Live. If you get a chance, check for openings in any of the following contests. I would love to compete against one of my readers. Trust me, it’s probably a good chance for you to pick up some easy cash.
Fantasy Sports Live – Contest #1 – 33314 – Week 15
Heads-up contest with a 1st prize of $20 – Entry fee is $11.
800 point salary cap
- QB M. Cassel 174 pts
- WR R. Moss 105 pts
- WR B. Edwards 70 pts
- WR L. Evans 78 pts
- RB C. Benson 69 pts
- RB P. Thomas 105 pts
- TE J. Shockey 37 pts
- K M. Prater 75 pts
- DEF D. NYJ 85 pts
Total points = 798
Remaining Points = 2
Quarterback – Cassel has put up good numbers while filling in for the injured Tom Brady. Last Sunday, he threw for three touchdowns, despite the death of his father earlier in the week. The Patriots take on the Cardinals this week, and I’m hoping for a shootout.
Wide Receivers – Lee Evans, Randy Moss and Braylon Edwards. I’m hoping Edwards can continue his momentum after last week’s big Monday night game. Evans is facing the Broncos, and their defense seems incapable of stopping anyone. I already had Cassel, so I thought I’d double up and grab Moss as well.
Running Backs – The 800 points salary cap is unforgiving, so you really have to scrape the bottom at times. First off, I got Pierre Thomas of the Saints. With Reggie Bush now on IR, the entire ground game should run through Thomas. I also added Cedric Benson for the bargain price of 69 points. He’s a starter, and his totals with the Bengals have actually been decent. It doesn’t hurt that they’re playing the Browns this week.
Tight End – Shockey hasn’t done much this season (besides getting hurt), but he does have lots of upside. He was only 37 points, so I’m willing to roll the dice.
Kicker – I struggle with the kicker question every week. Usually, I try to get someone dirt cheap. This week’s winner is Matt Prater, the kicker for the Broncos.
Defense – The Jets are taking on the Seahawks, a team which has really struggled this season. I’m hoping for good things from this one.
Fantasy Sports Live – Contest #2 (33093) – Week 15
Six team contest with 1st place paying $20 – Entry fee of $5.5.
No salary cap
- QB D. Brees
- WR B. Marshall
- WR C. Johnson
- WR A. Johnson
- RB A. Peterson
- RB P. Thomas
- TE T. Gonzalez
- K M. Bryant
- DEF D. NYJ
Quarterback – Brees is playing against the Lions, the team which has given up more red zone trips than any other NFL franchise. Reggie Bush may have been lost for the season, but the Saints offense should keep right on rolling. They simply have too many weapons.
Wide Receivers – The Bills secondary is banged up, so I expect Marshall to have a strong day.
Calvin Johnson has scored in every game that QB Dan Orlovsky has started. He’s also second in the NFL with 10 touchdown catches.
Andre Johnson is always an excellent option, and he’s even stronger now that Matt Schaub is back and shaking off the rust.
Running Backs – Pierre Thomas gets to shred the Lions, and he doesn’t even have to worry about Reggie Bush stealing any touches. Thomas will also get some catches out of the backfield. Adrian Peterson takes on the Falcons 22nd-rated run defense this week. Chester Taylor will steal a few points, but “All Day” is a threat every time he touches the ball.
Tight End – After a down year in 2007, Gonzo has bounced back nicely during the 2008 NFL season. He’s about as consistent as it gets, especially considering the lackluster play of Antonio Gates in the last month.
Kicker – With no salary cap, I decided to go with Matt Bryant, the kicker for the Bucs. While the Bucs offense has struggled the last few weeks, I’m counting on Bryant to bounce back in Week 16.
Defense – Jets versus the Seahawks. Why not?
FantasySportsLive.com – Contest #3 (33399) – Week 16
Heads-up contest with a prize of $6 – Entry fee of $3.4.
1000 point salary cap
- QB B. Roethlisberger 137 pts
- WR A. Johnson 125 pts
- WR A. Boldin 137 pts
- WR C. Johnson 123 pts
- RB M. Lynch 126 pts
- RB P. Thomas 105 pts
- TE O. Daniels 58 pts
- K M. Bryant 82 pts
- DEF D. NYJ 85 pts
Total Points = 978
Remaining Points = 22
Quarterback – Roethlisberger excels during the month of December. It also helps that a few of Tennessee’s best defensive players will miss the game.
Wide Receivers – Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson and Anquan Boldin. Within this trio, I have the two league leaders in touchdown catches (C. Johnson and Boldin). I’ll take that every single week.
Running Backs – The Broncos defense sucks, so Lynch should get plenty of opportunities to handle the ball. I also went with Pierre Thomas again, as that match-up against the Lions is just too good to pass up.
Tight End – Owen Daniels has been targeted at least 4 times in every game this season. This week, he takes on the hapless Raiders.
Kicker – Again with Matt Bryant. I had him in some of my fantasy football teams, and he always served me well.
Defense – I’ll take the Jets for the trifecta. Looks like this will be a boom or bust selection. I’m sure I’ll be cursing the Jets this time next week.
I came into the week with $456.90. After paying my entry fees, I’m now sitting at $437.00. Every week, I’m setting new lows. Hopefully, I can win a few this week and start climbing back towards my original bankroll of $500. It would be nice to finish the season with a profit (or at least break even).
If you haven’t tried Fantasy Sports Live yet, you should strongly consider it. It’s free to create an account, and contests range from $1 entry fees to several hundred dollars. So whether you’re just curious or a bona-fide high roller, Fantasy Sports Live has something for you.
Besides, participating in a contest like this actually gives you a reason to watch this week’s Browns/Bengals game. Amazing how a game suddenly becomes interesting when there’s money on the line.
