Fantasy Sports Live Journal Week 9

NFL Week 9

FantasySportsLive.com - Fantasy Sports LiveAs Week 9 of the NFL season rolls around, it’s time to take a look back and see how I did over at Fantasy Sports Live for last week.

As you may remember, I entered three contests last week, with my goal being to get back over my initial $500 bankroll.

Was I successful? Well, read on and find out.

Fantasy Sports Live – Week 8 Results

FSL Contest #1 – Week 8 – #26975

Blogger Battle
10-player contest with 1st place paying $50 – Entry fee is $11
950 point salary cap

Another sorry performance in the Blogger Battle. Out of 10 teams, I finished an unimpressive 8th. Most of my players got into the double digits, but Braylon Edwards had a disappointing week with only 6.4. Ben Watson also stunk it up with 1.3 points. While Moss and Evans did okay, they failed to post the kind of numbers that guys like Steve Smith and Anquan Boldin did. $11 down the drain.

Fantasy Sports Live – Contest 2 – Week 8 – #27151

Heads-Up Contest with 1st place paying $6 – Entry fee is $3.4
$1,800K Salary Cap

In this heads-up contest, I took on Buffalo66, one of the all-time leaders over at Fantasy Sports Live. I put up a respectable 124.9 points, but I ended up losing to his 128.7. The big difference came from the performance of Maurice Jones-Drew. He only scored 4.8 for my team, and that really hurt me in the grand scheme of things. Owen Daniels and Josh Scobee also failed to live up to expectations. Otherwise, my team was pretty solid. I’ll get you next time, Buffalo66

FSL Contest 3 – Week 8 – #27181

Heads-Up contest with 1st prize of $40 – $22 entry fee
No salary cap

I made up for my two losses by winning this contest. I scored a robust 132.6 points and won $40. While that score should have been good enough to win anyway, I got some help when my opponent, Kaiseroll13, was disqualified. I’m not sure what happened there, but I’ll happily take the win and the money.

Fantasy Sports Live – Week 9 Contests

Now that I’m back over the $500 mark, it’s time to once again charge into the fray. I’ll be entering three contests again, as that always seems like a good number to me. If you haven’t tried it yet, be sure to create an account at Fantasy Sports Live and get in on the action. Hope to see you there.

Fantasysportslive.com – Week 9 – Contest 1 – #27497

Heads-up contest with a 1st prize of $6 – Entry fee is $3.4.
No salary cap.

Quarterback – Warner is smoking hot right now, and the last time he played the Rams he passed for 285 yards and three touchdowns. I expect more of the same this week, as Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin are at full strength.

Wide Receivers – Andre Johnson is one of the hottest receivers in the league right now. Larry Fitzgerald is always a threat in the high-powered passing offense of the Cardinals, and Brandon Marshall is the most targeted wide receiver in the NFL. That’s a trio that I’ll take every week of the season.

Running Backs – Three weeks ago, Forte played against the Lions and only got 61 yards on the ground. He did score two touchdowns, however. That’s more important in this scoring format, anyway, so I’ll happily start him again. Peterson is taking on the Texans, who are currently giving up 4.5 yards per game against opposing running backs.

Tight End – In the last two games, Dallas Clark has gained 175 yards and two touchdowns. Reggie Wayne is a little banged up, and Clark looks to be the one benefiting the most.

Kicker – Matt Bryant has been solid this year, and the Bucs take on the lowly Chiefs this week. The only danger here is that the Bucs score nothing but touchdowns and Bryant is reduced to extra point duty. I’ll take that risk.

Defense – Tampa Bay has the top defense in the league, and this week they play against the horrible Chiefs, a team which seems to have totally given up. The Chiefs’ best player is currently suspended, and they’re down to their 3rd-string quarterback. The Bucs are going to eat them alive.

Fantasy Sports Live – Week 9 – Contest 2 – #27409

Blogger Battle – 10 teams – $50 for 1st place – Entry fee of $11.
950 point salary cap

Total Cap Cost = 935
Remaining Points = 15

Quarterback – McNabb is due for a big game, and playing the struggling Seahawks should bring out the best in him. While he hasn’t thrown a TD in two of his last four game, I expect that to change this week. Seattle is one of the worst teams against NFL quarterbacks this season, and several of their defensive players are currently banged up.

Wide Receivers – I went with Brandon Marshall and Andre Johnson again, but I also added Bernard Berrian in order to save some points. In his last four games, Berrian has been targeted 38 times for 400 yards and three touchdowns.

Running Backs – I needed to save some points here, so I went with Earnest Graham and Willis McGahee. Warrick Dunn looks like he won’t play, so Graham should get over 20 carries against the worst run defense in the league. McGahee has also been coming on lately, as he’s racked up 42 carries in the last two games. These guys are cheap, but they should also be effective.

Tight End – I once again went with Dallas Clark at tight end. He’s been hot, but he’s also cheap at Fantasy Sports Live. If you’re working under the constraints of a salary cap, these are the kind of things that you have to take into consideration.

Kicker – Matt Bryant – my kicker of the week. I went with him in the last contest, so why not do it again?

Defense – The Bears take on the Lions. Do I really need to say anything else?

Fantasy Sports Live – Week 9 – Contest 3 – #27726

Heads-up contest with 1st prize paying $10 – Entry fee of $5.5
800 points salary cap

Total points spent = 796
Remaining points = 4

Quarterback – With only an 800 point cap, I needed someone cheap but effective. Gus Frerotte fits that bill. While he started the year as a backup, he’s played well and averaged 271 yards over the last four games. He’s playing the Texans, and they’ve been giving up at least two touchdowns to every opposing quarterback that they’ve played.

Wide Receivers – I switched things up on this one. Berrian has been solid as of late, and DeSean Jackson should have a big day for the Eagles (especially against the lackluster defense of the Seahawks). Finally, I added Terrell Owens. He’s been in a slump lately, and Tony Romo being out hasn’t helped things. Still, he’s due for a touchdown or two.

Running Backs – Earnest Graham was cheap and available, so he gets the nod. I needed another cheap guy, so I decided to take a chance with Tim Hightower. He keeps getting more and more carries, and many believe he will eventually replace Edgerrin James completely. If nothing else, he always seems capable of scoring a touchdown or two.

Tight End – Dallas Clark…again.

Kicker – Matt Bryant…again.

Defense – For my defense, I went with the Jaguars. They’re taking on the winless Bengals, and the Bungles have turned the ball over 12 times in their last five games. The Jags are on the road for this one, but it shouldn’t make any difference.

Fantasy Sports Live Bankroll

When the week started, I was at $514.90. After entering my contests, I currently stand at $495. I’m hoping to get to the point where entering three contests doesn’t always drop me below the $500 mark, but we’ll have to wait and see.

If you love playing fantasy sports, why not check out Fantasy Sports Live? The best thing is that you can draft a new team every week, so you’re not stuck with a team that you hate. For that matter, you can enter as many contests as you want, and have as many different teams as you like. With Fantasy Sports Live, the possibilities are endless.
