Glenn Coffee Has Solid Rookie Preseason Debut

Glenn Coffee ran up 67 yards on 14 carries starting for the San Francisco 49ers in their preseason game versus the Denver Broncos. Glenn Coffee was getting a look with the Niners first team offense, since Mike Singletary was giving Frank Gore the night off.

For those who took the offseason off, Glenn Coffee was the 10th pick of the 3rd round of the 2009 NFL Draft (74th overall) for the San Francisco 49ers, and the rookie running back out of Alabama looks to be Frank Gore’s handcuff this season. If you draft Frank Gore in your local league, be sure to add Glenn Coffee for injury purposes late in the draft.

Glenn Coffee Against the Denver Broncos

Coffee’s numbers average nearly 5 yards per carry on the night, though it’s hard to get too excited when you consider that the Denver Broncos had one of the worst run defenses in the NFL in 2008. Still, it’s better to see Glenn Coffee looking good against the Broncos than otherwise. Coffee is a tall 6’1″, 198 lb RB, so he still needs to add some bulk to be an everydown back in the NFL.

But if Frank Gore gets injured this season, Glenn Coffee might put together pivotal weeks of numbers for your fantasy team.
