Matthew Stafford Fantasy Football News

Matt Stafford Has a Touchdown, Interception in Debut

Matt Stafford showed some promise in four drives against the Atlanta Falcons 2nd Team Defense in his 2009 preseason debut, putting up 114 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception against the Falcons in the late 2nd quarter and early 3rd quarter. Matt Stafford’s one pick went for an opposing touchdown, while he immediately returned to the field and led the Lions on a 10-play drive for a Detroit Lions touchdown.

Kevin Smith Fantasy Football News

In other fantasy news of note for the Lions game, Kevin Smith had 3 rushes for 12 yards in limited play. Of note is that Kevin Smith, who at times was a good pass catcher for the Lions in 2008, caught 2 balls for 27 yards. Calvin Johnson was not involved in the action. Rookie 1st round tight end, Brandon Pettigrew, did not have a catch.

Ernie Sims Fantasy Football News

On the defensive front, Ernie Sims had 2 tackles in limited action, while Jordan Dizon did not appears on the stats sheet. Stuart Schweigart, a safety who came over from the Oakland Raiders in the offseason, had 3 solo tackles and 1 assist, showing what a Lions safety might get this year in the tackling arena.

The starting safeties are Kelvin Pearson (2 solo tackles, 1 assist) and Marquand Manual. Julian Peterson had 2 tackles and 2 assists at outside linebacker, while Larry Foote had 1 tackle and 1 assist. Both players (over from the Seahawks and Steelers) should have their tackle totals go up in 2009, seeing they’ll be playing from behind with the Detroit Lions – and therefore have opposing teams running the clock out a lot with their running game.
